PYONGYANG- After two days of talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on denuclearization, North Korea has termed US position on the issue as “extremely regrettable.”
While Mr Pompeo said the talks were productive and progress was made on the contentious issue of denuclearization, a North Korean foreign ministry official accused US of using gangster like tactics to push them.
The North Korean statement, carried by the official KCNA news agency reads, “We had anticipated the US side would come with a constructive idea, thinking we would take something in return.
"The US is fatally mistaken if it went to the extent of regarding that [North Korea] would be compelled to accept, out of its patience, demands reflecting its gangster-like mindset," it added.
Mr Pompeo is next scheduled to meet the foreign ministers of Japan and South Korea in Tokyo on Sunday.
