TENNIS- Czech seventh seed Karolina Pliskova came back from a set down to beat Mihaela Buzarnescu 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1 to make it to Wimbledon fourth round for the first time. She will next face 20th-seeded Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands.

American Serena Williams also made it to fourth round with a 7-5 7-6 (7-2) win over France’s Kristina Mladenovic.

She is next up against Russian Evgeniya Rodina who ousted 10th seed Madison Keys earlier on Friday.

Serena’s sister Venus, a five time champion, was knocked out by 20thseed Kiki Bertens 6-2, 6-7(5), 8-6.

“I think she was just a little bit luckier than I was in the end. Sometimes it takes luck and skill. You know, she definitely deserved that one,” Venus said after her loss. Bertens next faces Pliskova in the fourth round.

Venus, seeded ninth, joined Petra Kvitova, Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki and Sloane Stephens as the high profile casualties in women’s singles.
