TENNIS- Defending Spanish champion Garbine Muguruza was knocked out of the second round of Wimbledon on Thursday by Belgian 47th-ranked Alison Van Uytvanck. Muguruza lost 5-7, 6-2, 6-1.
This is Van Uytvanck’s first ever win over a top 10 opponent.
“I may have looked calm but inside I was dying.” Muguruza admitted it had not been her day.
“She played big, took risks and it worked for her but my level was not where I wanted it to be,” said the deposed champion.
Among the top 10 seeds, now only top seed Simona Halep, number seven Karolina Pliskova and 10th seed Madison Keys are left.
