Not only Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, but Mohali civic body has also been in limelight due to its controversy with the Punjab Government over the clearing of various agendas that are waiting the approval of the government. In the latest development, Mohali MC Councillors have threatened the government that it will move the High Court of Punjab if Local Bodies department fails to clear the impending agendas.
However, the MC house saw a divide between the Congress and SAD-BJP councillors. Many times in the past, councillors have been seen blaming each other’s party for the halted development works. SAD-BJP councillors while commenting at Congress councillors alleged that congress-led Punjab government is sitting on agendas and not clearing them from past six months. Congress Councillors denied the claims and said that only 5 to 6 agendas are pending and that are also in pipeline.
As a matter of fact, Mohali MC has been unable to attain the Open Defecation Free (ODF) status as at present there are eight markets in Mohali without public toilets. The agenda to construct community toilets outside three colonies is pending with the local bodies department, Punjab. However, Recently, MC was in limelight over passing an ad agenda worth Rs 80 lakh for advertisements to be displayed across the city that was passed in a recent MC house meet without discussion.
