Wimbledon 2018: Djokovic overcomes Sandgren, Thiem retires

TENNIS- Serbian former world number one Novak Djokovic entered the second round of Wimbledon on Tuesday with a straight set 6-3 6-1 6-2 win against American Tennys Sandgren.

Pursuing a fourth Wimbledon title, the Serb will face either Horacio Zeballos or Guido Andreozzi, both of Argentina, for a place in the last 32.

It was curtains for Austria’s Dominic Thiem as he retired hurt in the first round of men’s singles against Cyprus' Marcos Baghdatis when the latter was leading 6-4, 7-5, 2-0.

Baghdatis will next face Spain’s David Ferrer or Russian Karen Khachanov.

10th-seeded David Goffin also lost in straight sets to Australian Matthew Ebden earlier Tuesday.

Fifth-seeded Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro also reached second round with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 win over Peter Gojowczyk of Germany. He is next up against Feliciano Lopez who ousted Federico Delbonis of Argentina 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
