Christchurch mosque attacker charged with terrorism

NEW ZEALAND- Brenton Tarrant, the man accused of killing 51 people in the Christchurch mosque attack in New Zealand, has been charged with terrorism.

Tarrant attacked two mosques- the Al Noor mosque and the Linwood Islamic Centre- in the South island city on March 15 killing 51 people and injuring many others.

It is the first time in New Zealand that a person has been charged with an act of terror under this law. He is also facing charges of murder and 40 of attempted murder.

Tarrant is being held in isolation at the Auckland Prison in Paremoremo and will next appear in court in June.
