TV- Miguel Sapochnik who directed major battle sequences of HBO show Game of Thrones has defended the destruction of King's Landing by Daenerys in Season 8 Episode 5.
Daenerys transforms into a mad queen in the penultimate episode and burns the entire King's Landing even after the surrender of Queen Cersei.
While talking to IndieWire, Sapochnik said, “The destruction of King's Landing, for me, has always been an audience participation event. You wanted this, you wanted this, you wanted this. Here. Is that really what you wanted? I felt like there was this thing of this bloodthirstiness that exists in the fans, for revenge, for this payback that is personified by Dany... Because even though the characters that don't exist in the end, what you're looking for, as an audience member, is death and destruction.”
But fans were not happy with this sudden turn in Dany’s character arc and believed her inherent goodness should have been the main highlight.
