While Punjab is going to vote for the Lok Sabha elections on May 19, the seat of Ferozepur constituency in Punjab has emerged has a hot seat with SAD President Sukhbir Badal and Congress candidate Sher Singh Ghubaya in the battlefield. The seat is crucial for Congress as the party has been on a losing spree since 1985. With Congress playing the Rai Sikh card in this border Lok Sabha seat by fielding Ghubaya, it has raised the hopes for the party. However, it is yet to be seen if Congress’ gamble of nominating a turncoat Rai Sikh leader will pay off or will it just be another political demise for Ghubaya.
It is notable to mention that Ghubaya had vacated his Assembly seat of Jalalabad in 2009 to make way for Badal to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. However, the latter emerged as the biggest factor in plotting Ghubaya’s political demise. It shall not be sidelined that even the Congress leaders are not convinced with Ghubaya’s candidature. This has resulted in strife within Congress party.
In the latest development, just four days before the elections, former Congress MLA Dr Mohinder Kumar Rinwa expressed anguish over the party ticket to Sher Singh Ghubaya in front of party observer and former PPCC president HS Hanspal. Amid this, the factionalism within the party can plot another political demise for Ghubaya.
