After the Municipal Corporation started acting strict on the property tax defaulters, many government and private properties have been put on MC’s radar. Recently after notifying tricity’s topmost colleges including MCM DAV college, the civic body has now issued notices to Chandigarh Golf Club and Lake Club for not complying with the property tax norms.

Cash crunched MC has been on a drive to catch the property tax defaulters. The MC issued notices to the Golf Club, Sector 6, for dues amounting to Rs 5,46,19,604 and the Lake Club, Sector 5, for dues amounting to Rs 63,77,645. Both clubs have been ordered to deposit the amount before July 31 failing which the attachment/sealing process would be initiated as per law against the defaulters.

As per the sources, MC has issued notices to more than 50 defaulters starting from this year who have not cleared their tax. Also, the MC has initiated the process of attaching the properties of the defaulters. Section 148 of Municipal Act gives MC Commissioner to attach, sell or seal the properties of the defaulters.
