While all the parties ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections are on their toes to fill their vote bank, a war of words is going on between the ruling Congress in Punjab and the BJP at centre. Accused of not being able to tackle the increasing farmers’ suicide, parties are left with no option but to blame one another.

Recently, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Punjab’s city Malout to address the farmers, the opposition left no chance to play the blame game.

Taking a call on the increasing farmers suicide in the state, the High Court bench led by Chief Justice Krishna Murari and Justice Arun Palli showed resentment and said that Instead of offering money to farmers, steps need to be taken to find some permanent solution to tackle the grievances in the farm sector. Bench also observed that the government is encouraging suicides by providing monetary relief.

Captain Amarinder on the other hand has been seen asking centre to provide loan waiver to the farmers. He also met Modi for the effective implementation of Swaminathan report. It shall be noted that Captain Amarinder had in June last year announced a farm debt waiver of up to Rs 2 lakh for small and marginal farmers, and a flat Rs 2 lakh relief for all other marginal farmers, irrespective of the loan amount.
